  • Rock Island Arsenal Museum - The Rock Island Arsenal Museum, established in 1905, is the second oldest U.S. Army museum after West Point, and the only certified Army museum in Illinois. It contains information on the history of Arsenal Island, an extensive collection of small arms, and other artifacts. The museum's displays change periodically; only about 10 percent of its collection is on display at one time. The museum is in Building 60 on North Ave. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday; noon-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday (closed on major holidays.). Enter Arsenal Island through the Moline gate.   • Mississippi River Visitor Center - The Mississippi River Visitor Center, Locks and Dam 15, Rock Island, is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. except for Thanksgiving Day, from noon Christmas Eve day through Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. The center is on the west end of Arsenal Island near the Government Bridge between Davenport and Rock Island. Watch towboats pass through the locks.
